Preparedness: teens need a range of personal and practical skills

Preparedness Programming at Plummer Home

At Plummer Home, Preparedness Programming ranges from teaching living skills such as banking, budgeting, and cooking to vocational opportunities both at Plummer Home and in the community.

  • Coaching in job search skills and personal presentation

  • Assistance obtaining and maintaining employment in the community

  • Employment opportunities at Plummer Home

Employment opportunities at Plummer Home are often project-based and designed to expose teens to a wide range of skills ranging from timeliness and accountability to particular vocational skills.  Recent examples include:

  • A large carpentry project during which boys were part of designing a large shed, purchasing the material and building the shed.

  • Catered events through which participants are exposed to the fundamentals of customer relations, menu planning, food preparation and food service.

  • A gardening project in which participants are responsible for working with both staff and community volunteers to maintain a Plummer Home Garden.
